How to Improve Your Website’s Positions in Google

17 June 2009 No Comment

It’s possible to build traffic to your website by accepting the challenge to improve your position. It’s a constant work in progress; article marketing, advertising, and good ad words are only the beginning. You have to work hard to acquire your results and keep the top rankings.

As an online business owner, you know that buyers never skip over the first page. It’s a constant task to get on the first page, stay on the first page, and remain a top rank in your niche. Your marketing plan should reflect smart strategies to earn the ranks you desire. Be smart and avoid black hat techniques to stay competitive in your industry.

Black hat techniques are a sort of illegal SEO methods to earn popularity, rank, and top position in the seach engines. If you’re caught commiting these acts, the Google ‘police’ will ban you from the rankings, period.

1. Hidden links and text is a smack in Google’s face. Web site owners that use this try to match the color of their pages to the hidden links and text to trick visitors as well as search engines.

Not only Google but the other search engines have the ability to recognize that white text is being displayed on a white background or black text on a black background and so on.

2. Cloaking is a bait-and-switch method of showing search engines one thing and visitors another. It’s a trick to turn visitors into malware victims by luring traffic in with false advertising. Be careful not to do this. This is another factor that can get you dropped instantly once detected.

3. Link Farms. Im sure youve heard of the term link farm. All a link farm is, is a system where all the members are linked to each other via a common set of link pages. The result is that all members have a links page with the other members web addresses on them.

Search engines detect, drop, and eventually ban websites with link farms. For legitimate popularity, you should build links with websites relevant to your information. In fact anyone using this type of linking will be penalized. Never invite website owners to exchange links that are not in your industry or relevant to your business.

4. Duplicate content is content shown on page after page after page on multiple websites. Please play by the rules. Search engines rank original content because it stands out. Duplicate content is indexed once and the other articles are ignored. DO not waste your time or money in paying for this.

5. Keyword stuffing is a big no-no in SEO. Try to use keywords sparingly and only if it’s relevant to your website’s content. Do not stuff keywords in your metatags, articles, and pages to dominate the search engines. With a little consistency, you can dominate the keyword with organic SEO techniques instead of keyword stuffing.

6. Duplicate Sites. This is when you clone your site under a bunch of different domain names with the same content and then you have the pages linked together so the can get a better ranking and get the top spots for your keywords. This is a really bad idea, and sure way to get banned. Short and sweet, never do this.
